City Before Lockdown

Tammy tells us about her artwork “City Before Lockdown”. It gives us a peek into her thoughts and artistic process. Have a read!

Emotional engagement:

A limited colour palette with varying levels of transparency and opacity were used in this painting. By overlapping the colours, they created a sense of connectivity as the colours interact with each other between the multiple layers.

Composition:

In contrast to the manic, chaotic and noisy city, I simplified these characteristics into geometric shapes of the buildings and arranged their placements to form a balanced composition.

Technical Skill and Innovation:

I was living in this city just before and during Covid lockdown, and observing the dramatic change during this period of time. The placement of colours, and the composition were meticulously planned throughout, in order to evoke both a sense of calm and a feeling of energy.
