SONA ARORA
MEDITATIVE TRANSLATIONS OF NATURE
ARTIST STATEMENT
My fascination with art began in childhood, leading me on a journey across various mediums, from sketching to acrylics, and from fabric to glass painting. Guided by Master Jatin Das and trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, I've cultivated my skills. Alongside degrees in Chemistry and Education, I teach as a Certified Zentangle Teacher, merging my passions for meditation, mindfulness, and gender equality with art to provoke introspection and social consciousness. Through exhibitions and community projects, like the Global Art Fair and the Racial Harmony Day Mural Painting, I advocate for social change. Education, including workshops on neurographic art and pen and ink doodling, enriches my craft. My art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with their inner selves, fostering personal growth and social awareness. Join me on this journey of creativity and empathy.
BIOGRAPHY
Sona Arora, a visual artist specializing in oil and acrylic figurative and abstract painting, also holds certification as a Zentangle teacher. Her passion for fine arts has been a lifelong pursuit, alongside her previous career as a chemistry teacher. Upon moving overseas with her young family, art took precedence, leading her to explore glass painting, sketching, portrait drawing, and further honing her skills in oil and acrylic painting while obtaining certification as a Zentangle teacher. Her artistic interests extend beyond painting, encompassing crochet and Indian folk art forms like kalamkari and Gond art.
Driven by a deep passion for mental health and emotional well-being, Sona actively practices yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, finding inspiration in nature. Alongside raising two successful young adults, she resides in Singapore with her husband, a finance professional, nurturing her love for plants and proudly embracing the title of "plant mother."
Having had the privilege of learning from master artist Jatin Das in her childhood, coupled with formal art education, Sona's expertise extends to conducting Zentangle workshops at mental health awareness festivals like Beyond the Label 2023 and the Mental Health Film Festival 2023. Her philanthropic efforts include donating proceeds from her art sales to AWARE. Her artworks have been showcased in various exhibitions across Singapore, including Design Orchard , The ion art gallery and The Arts House, with her Zentangle art featured in the book "Tangle All Around" in 2023. As both an art teacher and mentor, Sona is celebrated for her patient and encouraging demeanor.
