MALINI NATHAN
MODERN IMPRESSIONISM INSPIRED BY NATURE AND WILDLIFE
ARTIST STATEMENT
Having a strong passion for arts, I express myself through various mediums including acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal compositions and resin. My penchant for travelling and backpacking has shaped my creativity over the years. Inspired by the adventurous soul, my style of artwork revolves around rough textures, sparkles and shines. I believe that as human beings, we evolve though our travels and experiences. It is a form of self-discovery. We learn from the rough patches, reflect on it and hold on to what is valuable. My passion for people and animals was reinforced through the years of travelling. My paintings consist of many layers of colours using palette knife to create rough textures and the addition of gold leaf and crushed glass. I believe in capturing the emotions, mood and feelings of people and animals using this style. Gold symbolizes what is purest and most valued in terms of human aspirations and self-discovery. The crush glass in my art creates an illusion of a mirror and is seen as a reflection of what we have learnt, making each piece an avant-garde. This unique style using palette knife is used to.

HORNBILLS OF SINGAPORE is a painting of the hornbills that started showing up on the trees outside my art studio. This painting signifies so much positivity during the unknown.

HORNBILL is a painting of the first hornbill that was spotted at my home balcony. A realisation that we share this planet with so many beautiful majestic creatures. It was a moment when time stood still. Just the existence of this beautiful creature brought so much happiness and peace to many.
OTTER BY THE BAY

OTTERS BY THE BAY. Otters started becoming more visible in urban areas during the pandemic. Seeing them nearly every evening along the canal was a whole new experience to many. For some, they were seen as a pest for eating their pet fishes. However, this was a great reminder that we humans are just one of species among many sharing this planet and the importance of coexisting harmoniously.
