JILLIAN CHEONG
CELEBRATING BEAUTY IN THE MUNDANE
ARTIST STATEMENT
I create art to inspire hope and celebrate beauty. The impetus to paint is the desire to capture a truth or something that sparked joy. Nature is often my source of inspiration. Even in my spiritual musings, I find that nature speaks both imagery and metaphor. My artworks are mostly figurative. I love working with colour, and have recently been adding fabric collage and texture to my paintings. I am now exploring abstraction and adding this to my work.
BIOGRAPHY
Jillian is an emerging self-taught Singaporean artist. She has been battling Long Covid since 2022. Motherhood and Long Covid have taught her to be present in the moment, to be rooted in God and to value people over productivity. These themes feature prominently in her artworks. A member of the Society of Singapore Chinese Artists, the Art Appreciation Club and Mama on Palette, she actively participates in Singapore’s art community and women’s mental health causes. Her artworks are published in “Site.Ma”, a book that explores Singapore through the eyes of mother artists.

In the dappled light
Creation speaks
A symphony of birdsong
Gentle breeze, rustles the leaves
Light dances on the water
And peeks through the trees
A balm for the soul
