What media of art do you work in?
I work with acrylic paints and oil paints. I also use microtip pens for zentangle art.
How would you describe your genre of painting?
I have varied interests. I paint figurative , abstract, landscapes.
Can you describe your creative process? When you begin a painting, do you have an idea of what the end result is? Do you prepare sketches first? Do you know the colors you are going to use?
My creative process varies. Sometimes if I am painting abstract I feel strongly about the colours I want to use , and as I go along the painting evolves. Sometimes if it is figurative or landscape I have a very vivid picture in my mind that I want to paint.
What is it about teaching that you enjoy?
I teach art and that is something that I love to do. When I teach I spend time in mindfulness meditation and use mindfulness techniques during the teaching process. It gives me great joy when students tell me that they find my classes very peaceful and also they learnt new art techniques.
What is the message you want people to take away from your artwork?
I hope my art makes people feel a sense of calm , peace , joy . That’s what my art brings to me. So I hope anyone who owns my work or sees it gets the feeling that I do.
100 years from now, how do you want people to remember you as an artist?
I hope I inspire someone to pick up brushes and paint , find peace and calm ,no matter what age or phase they are in life.
What is your favorite praise you have received from a client or about your work?
I often get told by my students that they find my classes very therapeutic, peaceful . Kids who come to me , tell me that they don’t want to miss any class. I feel proud of what I do and motivated to keep marching on.
What are your hobbies outside of Art?
I love gardening , meditation, yoga.
What is an interesting piece of trivia about you that people don’t know?
I am an IB chemistry teacher. I left teaching Chemistry long ago as I moved countries accompanying my husband and my young family needed me to be home.
Give me one or two sentences about your family?
I am a mother of 2 . Both my kids live in the US now. My husband manages a hedge fund.
What has been your strongest influence in your art career thus far?
Nature is my strongest influence and inspiration
What is your vision for yourself as an artist 5 years from now?
I want to have learnt more , would like to have exhibited my work more not just in singapore but globally . Also I have a dream to have an art school of my own.
