Ayeesha Khanna

What media of art do you work in?
I work with acrylic paints and oil paints. I also use texture paste in most of my artworks.

How would you describe your genre of painting?
I am currently exploring realist expressionism in everyday scenes, seascapes and cityscapes.

Can you describe your creative process?  When you begin a painting, do you have an idea of what the end result is? Do you prepare sketches first?  Do you know the colors you are going to use?
I am often driven to create with a nascent idea in mind, but every painting is a journey rather than a destination – evolving over weeks or months. Colours can easily equate to emotions and the end result is highly reflective of my self-discovery during the period it was made.

What is the message you want people to take away from your artwork?
I hope to evoke a sense of gratitude and reflection, celebrating the beauty in ordinary, sharing everyday moments to connect deeply with the viewers’ experiences and emotions.

100 years from now, how do you want people to remember you as an artist?
I would like to be remembered as an artist who could find poetry in the ordinary and really get people to pause and think

What is your favorite praise you have received from a client or about your work?
The feedback I most often receive how my paintings can breathe joy into a space and are universally relevant

What are your hobbies outside of Art?

I’m an avid reader, a published writer and I find cooking rather meditative.

What is an interesting piece of trivia about you that people don’t know?
I work as a storyteller for AI and love it!

Give me one or two sentences about your family?

I live in Singapore with my husband.

What has been your strongest influence in your art career thus far?
My writing has actually been a strong influence. I used to write fiction derived from real life but soon realized I had more brushstrokes than words to express myself!

What is your vision for yourself as an artist 5 years from now?
I want to be creating art for impact, and hope to be able to make sizable donations with my art.

Which one is your favorite artwork you have ever done and tell us why?
My favourite artwork till date is Dopeher. It was painted back in 2022 when I had just moved to a new country and was nostalgic about home, it symbolises grounding and warmth of my childhood. It is based on a real broken lampshade in my grandmother’s pristine garden. She refused to take it down because a bird has built a nest in it, and the bougainvillea vines have taken root side by side.

Which is one of your most recent work?
My most recent work is Mandap. It's bolder, I've challenged myself a little bit more with the human elements and high contrast and its an exciting step in my evolution to finding my own style!
