This piece evokes an immediate emotional/intellectual response from the viewer -it alludes to gushing streams or crashing ocean waves, the sounds of which bring much-needed serenity and calm to a hassled mind in today's overly fast-paced world. The whites and different hues of blues also contribute to the same relaxing effect.
On the intellectual side, the viewer might recognise the sense of "flow" captured in the piece and begin to try and attribute the meaning of this to their life or life in general..for example, Nature (streams/ocean) inspires and gives us life lessons to "Trust in the Flow" and just "Be"and the rest eventually works out.
The composition is such that the sense of "flow" and emotions of "calm" and Nature inspired intellectual "message" is captured through a) the way in which the whites and different hues have been rendered b) the use of textures in conveying the effect of the earth and earthy tones of beige and browns. The artist has ensured the eye moves across the canvas by using a) lights and dark contrasts in varying degrees across the piece b) varying shapes and their different sizes appear throughout the work and make the piece interesting on the first look/as seen from a distance.
There are lots of little details and effects that can be seen up close on second/third look and which continue to keep the work of great interest even from a closer distance. Further, each time one sees the piece, it is as if one discovers a new never-seen-before facet. This has been achieved over the years through constant experimentation, improvisation and with the use of different colors, media and everyday tools and objects to create interesting effects. In fact, many a time, creating artworks as these involve frequently "letting go of the control" where the elements (colors/materials) react and mix with each other on their own and create unintended, beautiful marks, striations, effects that can't be copied or repeated leading to pieces that are truly "unique", "one-of-a-kind" just like each one of us in the world!
