Tell us something about your artwork. What makes it special and one of your favourites?

Quietude, a noun, means "a state of stillness, calmness, and quiet in a person or place."

QUIETUDE 2 is part of a series capturing the serene essence of the ocean. Immersed in its ever-shifting tones and soothing sounds, I’ve tried to translate this tranquility into art.

Emotional and Intellectual engagement:

As I created this artwork, I experienced the tranquility I was seeking, and this serenity is reflected in the piece. Strangers have told me that they feel a sense of calmness when they look at the painting. It evokes the intended emotions and these feelings linger with the viewer.

Composition and use of elements:

My style of painting abstract artworks is highly intuitive, with little planning beforehand. The process is spontaneous and driven by the moment. This artwork follows that spontaneous and intuitive approach. The only aspect of the process that was pre planned was the choice of colour palette. I chose a color palette of shades of blue, aqua, and turquoise. These are the colours that bring a sense of calm to me and I hoped to transfer some of that feeling onto the viewers.

As I worked, I aimed to maintain a balanced composition. While the flowing colors emerged intuitively, they still achieved a harmonious balance.

Technical skills and innovation:

Nature and its diverse textures inspire me, so many of my paintings explore the interplay of colors and textures.

This painting is no exception. I've explored textures like "crackle texture" and layered colors in this artwork. My technique involves working with thin layers of colors that flow into one another, seep into the crevices of the cracks, and create interesting and dynamic patterns. This process requires patience, as I must wait for each layer to dry before applying another thin layer of flowing colors. The result is a beautiful and complex interplay of texture and colors.
